"Multiculturalism" Is a Lack of Culture

Justin Katz

Ah, the not-so-rich tapestry of multiculturalism:

"We're supposed to be the most multicultural city in the world and it doesn't seem terribly inclusive," Denny Alexander explained. It, as it turns out, is ten-year-old playground equipment found in two parks in the west end of Toronto. The offending objects depict the biblical story of Noah's Ark, complete with cute pictures of animals in male-female pairings. In the most multicultural city in the world, that just won't do. The equipment won't be removed immediately, but the city had decided that, when it "wears out," it won't be replaced. "Toronto's motto is Diversity our Strength," wrote councilman Adam Giambrone. "City policies across the board look to reflect our multicultural city. One way of doing that is not focusing on any specific cultural or religious tradition." You really can't better that line about how awful it is for an inclusive city to, um, include something biblical.

A story about an old guy who gathers procreative pairs of all animals into a giant boat in order to preserve their species from extinction during a great flood is apparently harmful to children, in the public sphere. One wonders whether it's the fact that it's in the Bible that causes the problem or the participation of God in the narrative.

In third-grade public school music class, we learned a song about Noah's building the ark — "Who built the ark? Noah! Noah!" We're getting to the point, I fear, that Mr. C, as the teacher requested that we call him, would be brought before an international tribunal for teaching us such propaganda. In the United States, that sort of thing is preserved for the president.

Whenever I see "multiculturalism" I know it really means anti-culturalism.
These stupid liberals a-holes can't stand anything that might run counter to their own perverted, freakish, disgusting behavior and views.
Just remember, anybody extolling "multiculturalism" is most likely a perverted freak.

Wow, I'll remember that I'm a perverted freak the next time I eat a taco or swing by my local Chinese food restaurant. The last thing we want is the culture of those Mexicans or Chinese to pervert our culture. Stick to good old American culture. Like umm, hot dogs, and umm, apple pie, and ice cream. Oh wait, ice cream was invented in France, so that's out too. Hmm. What is the American culture? Is that waving a flag around and being patriotic? How do we define what is the American culture, especially if we remove all other cultures from it? Like Italian, English, Irish, etc.

True multiculturalism is INCLUSIVE, not EXCLUSIVE. Mr. Alexander, when confronted by characters in a park placed there for the enjoyment of children, should smile and keep going rather than concern himself with whether it is of a culture he approves.

If all are accepted then none are rejected.

What a bonehead!

BTW, were the toy animals anatomically correct or could it be that some were crossdressers and Mr. Alexander just didn't recognize how multicultural the Toronto folks were being?

Patrick,
I'm perfectly fine with every culture and every religion. Let them all show it off however they want, without forcing it on anyone. Candidly, life would be boring with out the various cultures.
But, in the name of "multiculturalism", when some snot-faced elitist, says you can't show off Noah's Arc, don't try telling me that is "multicultural". In fact, that is somebody telling you precisely the opposite. They don't want you seeing a particular culture.

As I said, when anybody starts ranting about how "multicultural" they are, it's merely to hide the fact that they, in their perverted, bigoted minds, believe there is one particular culture you should not be exposed to.

It's typical of lying liberals.

Do yourself a favor, and look closely at the issue when any liberal liar starts crying about how multicultural they are. It is always to be exclusive, not inclusive, just like the pathetic liar in that example in Toronto.
Open your eyes!

"Multiculturalism" is nothing but the left's attempt to give its' own meaning to what is truthfully multi-cultural.

Kind of like "The Employee Free Choice Act"

The same people who would shut down the Noah's Ark playground would enthusiastically support a Muslim themed exhibit on public property, blurting "multiculturalism" out the other side of their mouthes.

Mike's last comment reminds me of a joke about all the Goth kids and how they all so desperately want to look different that now they all look the same. Great job kids! You shun the cookie cutter JCrew and A&F look, but now you all look like the same kid. Extras from a Tim Burton film.

Not that there's anything wrong with that!

:)

My god Mike it must be so hard being so correct and do pompous all the time .You sound more like a liberal doing and bad right wing play acting. Either that or you really are an angry mean asshat.

I am so tired of this. If memory serves every major culture, with the significant exception of the Mayas, has a great flood myth.

Most religions are OK with me as long as they don't handle snakes.

To the "new" Americans. Christianity gave us this country, deal with it!

Seems to me that when we were in Saudi Arabia saving their ass, the soldiers weren't allowed to celebrate Christmas. Oh, "joy to the world".
