He Could Be the Perfect Man for the Job

Justin Katz

So, last week, Pat Crowley intimated that he may run for General Treasurer of Rhode Island. Those familiar with his body of, ahem, work will likely find it difficult to believe that the notion isn't a put-on at some level. Today, Crowley announced that RIFuture is something like the state's online hot potato:

RUTURE has been sold. After much consideration, and after receiving a substantial offer of purchase, I have decided to sell RIFUTURE. The sale creates an opportunity to pursue other state wide goals while still maintaining a voice in the progressive blogosphere. I will continue to be an active contributor to RIFUTURE, amongst other activities.

So, Patrick Crowley "small business owner" is no more, but based on his experience, I'm tempted to endorse his candidacy for the treasurer job. Who better to occupy that seat as Rhode Island plunges into the chilly waters toward which our gleeful leap off the economic cliff sent us rocketing?

Not sure what's been going on at RIF under Crowley's ownership.

I was banned after posting candidate Obama's on the record statement that he favored "single payer," which apparently ticked off the administrator.

Maybe new leadership will be more interested in debate . ..

Are you kidding? Crowley as State Treasurer? And maybe with Bob Walsh as Governor? Look on the bright side -- at least there would be some comedy on deck, as the Titanic slipped below the icy waves.

Maybe Yorke should invite Crowley onto his show...

Everyone gets banned from there, usually without notice.

I'd be surprised if the hit counts haven't actually decreased since Scabby himself took over.

(And yeah, you can avoid responding and telling me that readership has increased since you took over. I ain't believing it anyway.)

Crowley isn't qualified to be the Treasurer of my piggy bank or the change in my couch.

So said Pat to Ian Donnis:

"The right opportunity surfaced with a great buyer who wants to continue the work of the blog while taking it into a more activist based direction. The new owner has a great vision for RIfuture and will have the resources to take it to the next level."

George Soros, perhaps? It's probably someone associated with Ocean State Action or WorkingRI. It's hard for me to imagine that it;s just a normal person with deep pockets.

I think a run by Crowley for Treasurer would be great.Imagine how much left wing money would go down the toilet.
I'd be interested to see who bought RIF.
Crowley's main accomplishment running that blog was to make Matt Jerzyk look good.
Matt, whether one disagreed with him or not, often presented challenging premises for debate, unlike the immature rants that have been prevalent recently.
I have to admit that I skip over any posts containing charts or math whether here or on RIF because I have a problem with understanding anything involving numbers.Sort of math dyslexia.(maybe just stupidity in that area)
I hope RIF improves because I don't like just preaching to the choir-I like it when people challenge what I say.It keeps you sharp to defend your position frequently.
