Kicking Off the Office Pool on the Size of the Block-Report Scandal

Justin Katz

With Governor Lincoln Chafee planning a “media availability” at 2:30 this afternoon related to an analysis by Ken Block’s Simpatico Software to find waste, fraud, and abuse in Rhode Island’s social services programs, many residents are wondering whether he’s been hoping to hide something.

Governor Chafee has excused his early decision not to release the full report on the grounds that there is an investigation ongoing into the results, but there is much that he could tell us without jeopardizing official state police activities. Most significantly: What’s the total? What’s the bottom line for what the State of Rhode Island is losing to incompetent, inappropriate, and illegal activity?

A little less than a month ago the Boston Herald ran a headline that the federal government had paid out $140 Billion to the undeserving. I didn't have time to read the entire story.

Using this as a guideline, it should be possible to calculate an approximate amount.

Two years ago 1 providence Raji-Mart did over a Million dollars of fake EBT business over a 12 month period. He stated, in broken english, that once word got out he could not keep up with the demand of cashing out the cards at 50%.

There has to be at least 50 Million paid out to illegals throughout this state, per year.

Agencies virtually never integrate databases or talk to each other, so it's no surprise that prisoners and dead people are receiving benefits. The problems are compounded when multiple states or different levels of government are involved.

Nor should it be surprising that knowledge of how to defraud these programs is widespread. "Boutique" law firms and medical practices specializing in SSDI enrollment have successfully doubled the percentage of recipients over the past decade, and that program has far more rigorous requirements than SNAP.

Dan,
"Nor should it be surprising that knowledge of how to defraud these programs is widespread."

I don't know if it perists, but for years tehere was a book/pamphlet published in Haiti which listed various programs, the addresses of social service agencies and the names of social workers known to be a "touch".

All fraudsters should get jail time, but this is small potatoes compared to the Tea-Party favorite Florida's Governor Rick Scott whose company paid the largest medicare fraud fine in history, ONE BILLION 700 MILLION DOLLARS far surpassing Mitt Scissorhands Romney-care who was a director of a company that stole 119 million dollars from Medicare,

In China Rick Scott and Scissorhands Romney would have been taken out and shot in the back of the head

Sammy'
"In China Rick Scott and Scissorhands Romney would have been taken out and shot in the back of the head"

And you would pay for the bullet! Please Sammy, a little more facts. Start with the names of the companies.

Spammy has some truth to his rant, which is liberal orthodoxy--the best smears contain a small portion of truth. And, of course, the end justifies the means.

No charges were brought against Scott and Romney's Bain had only 6% holdings in the company that was accused of medicare fraud.

I'd write more, but bit I'm a bit busy pumping billions of dollars of your money into failing green companies...and the Gov't charge me to recover these losses as they did in the above cases..

If Scott or Romney have broken laws why didn't the highly biased Nobama Justice Department prosecute them?

BTw; in Iran, Nigeria, Yemen, Iraq and a whole bunch more places David Sissyline, Gordon Fox, Frank Ferri and many other homosexual sodomites would be stoned, hanged or have their heads neatly severed with an axe.
