One Point Lead for Cicilline in District 1

Carroll Andrew Morse

The WPRI-TV (CBS 12) poll released at 6 pm has incumbent First District Congressman David Cicilline leading challenger Brendan Doherty 42.6%-41.6%. Independent David Vogel has 6.3% of the vote, with 8.3% "not sure".

That result is a little closer than the most recent previous WPRI or Brown University polls.

ADDENDUM:

Some evidence, alluded to in Ted Nesi's write up, that the Cicilline campaign strategy of hyperpartisanship hasn't been effective...

Doherty has opened up a 26-point lead with independents and an 11-point lead among voters ages 40 to 59.

"Independents are breaking very strongly for Brendan Doherty right now," Fleming said. "Cicilline seems to be leveling off at 45% [of the vote]. ... He has to move his numbers up higher in order to win this election."

How many independents are polled?I'm one and I always hang up on polls/surveys :)

It's such a sad commentary that Cicilline is garnering ANY votes.

Not that Doherty is running some stellar campaign.

Lord help us all (and NOT The 'gommit').

I feel like This race will go like MA, The republican will win, do one term, then a democrat will take back the seat for good. That is "if" Doherty can win, not completely sold on it, even though I would love to never have to hear Cicillines voice again, RI is a true blue state.
Still thinking that Obama will win electoral vote and lose popular vote. I said that a few weeks ago and you thought I was joking, now I see press and blogs everywhere saying it.
