Things We Read Today, 4

Justin Katz

Today, I touch briefly (for me) on long-term vs. short-term recovery, who's better off, RI's long spiral (and potential for quick resurgence), and the significance of different ballot types in Cicilline-Loughlin.

"Speculator" As I understand it, the difference between a "Speculator" and an "Investor" is whether the investment is held for the statutory "Capital Gains" period. Seems like an artificial distinction to me.

If I bought a stock and was fortunate enough to have it double in two months, why would I hold it for the gains period? Some how, it is holier to hold stock for the "long term". I hope it wasn't GM stock. Praise of people "Holding for the long term" is just another form of the Agrarian Myth.
