Patrick Kennedy: Brain Man of Brown

Marc Comtois

(H/T Ian D.) Well, it is something he knows about....

Former Congressman Patrick Kennedy has a new title- visiting fellow at Brown University's Institute for Brain Science. He'll be spending his time advocating for advancements in the field of traumatic brain injury....Kennedy will deliver two lectures on the Brown campus during each year of his [two year] fellowship. He says the details of his day to day work are still being defined.
Bwahhahaha! "day to day work"? Right. Looks like Kennedy will be paid a nice little stipend for two 10 minute, stream-of-consciousness rambles. Regardless, it was nice of them to tell him he was a lecturer and not an exhibit.

Brown knows that doing favors for well connected people, especially in their times of need, always pays well.

After Chafee lost the senate race, Brown gave him a face-saving place to hide. When Carcieri was embarrassed by the smoke-shop raid, Brown's president agreed to chair the investigatory commission. And now Patrick Kennedy.

As an aside, given Chafee's widely-acclaimed performance as Governor, some might argue that Chafee must have spent most of his time at Brown as a patient in the operating room of Brown's non-human primate lab, and that Kennedy -- whose recent behavior has been no less impressive -- will do the same. But I wouldn't go that far. I, for one, think both would have qualified for the human brain program.

It's probably sufficient to note from Marc's recent post below that Brown received at least $36,602,898 in federal stimulus money (so far). What an easy way to do fundraising!

It's not often that I laugh out loud, but the irony of young Patrick working at an Institute for "Brain" Science under an AR posting under "Education" makes me think that April Fool's Day came early this year.

Mel Brooks couldn't have made this one up.

I'm really surprised that Patrick hasn't self destructed out there at the "compound".OTOH maybe he's more relaxed now that he doesn't have to play act at something he couldn't handle at the behest of his a**hole father.
