The Difference an Article Makes

Justin Katz

I'm not going to delve into the subject matter, right now, preferring to save it for another day, but I got a chuckle out of two citations of Anchor Rising related to the same story in different articles. From Ed Fitzpatrick's Sunday column:

And the day after the rally, Lynch's campaign manager questioned Caprio's support for same-sex marriage, citing comments Caprio made in 2009 to the conservative blog Anchor Rising.

And here's a post from the Projo's politics blog, which also appeared in the Political Scene in today's print edition:

Joel Coon, campaign manager for Attorney General Patrick C. Lynch, points to a January 2009 Caprio interview with a blog called Anchor Rising, in which Caprio says with reference to same-sex marriage that while he does not believe in imposing his views on others, his beliefs are consistent with those of the Catholic Church.

Presumably, Randal Edgar, who penned the post, now knows about us and will feel justified in calling Anchor Rising a "the," rather than just some strange entity out there in the blogosphere.

Yeah, a lighter note... Isn't this the predicable path that new reformist politicians take...first laughing at- but soon-very soon-collecting their press clippings. Then the fame becomes expected. MY GOD!! Justin could already be too big for his …blog !! Humility Justin Christian Humility!

Actually, I've found the trajectory to be quite different, David. I was much more likely to seek press clippings when they were of insignificant matters, like a short interview about my music in the Projo a number of years back.

And at any rate, my excitement for such mentions is entirely on behalf of Anchor Rising, not myself.

it was of course on a lighter note. but do you not think there is not a trap for the new reformers? remember buddy cianci ran and was elected as a reformer. Yeah, he reformed Providence style graft. Just wondering what the likes of you guys and the teafools aim at reforming.

Bravo! You've won the contest hands down. Well done! In record time too.

I think Katz likes the word "trajectory" almost as much as Dan Yorkey like the word "minutiae".

A tremendous amount of work and thought goes into writing these posts for our free enjoyment. If, and I'm not saying he does, the author gets some satisfaction as a result of the recognition from the "mainstream press" of the work, it would be against human nature to not find pleasure in that.

Ultimately writers write for their own reasons, mostly the satisfaction of creating something from nothing. The bonus is having others read what is written, and be moved by the words. Whether the reader likes what he reads or not is irrelevant, as long as there is some reaction.

I find nothing wrong with pointing out that the contributors of Anchor Rising, Justin, Andrew, Monique and Mark mostly are making some waves with the general population.

And, I appreciate the opportunity to let them know just how warped and misdirected their commentary often is.

Or how confused and self-contradictory Michael's commentary usually is.

However, the childish insults from our resident Leftists in the comments above are consistent with their other posts.

Now Bob, I'm just a simple man making simple observations. I only get confused when I try to not to snooze my way through some of the, shall we say, long winded commentary.

Things must indeed be slow in the consulting business.
