Jim Beale and Jeff Deckman on the RISC Business Network

Justin Katz

RISC President James Beale and Business Network Organizer Jeff Deckman went into detail about the Business Network at the Rhode Island Statewide Coalition's 2010 winter meeting, described in my liveblog of the event. (More video in the extended entry.)

Comments

as a former West Warwick resident, and recent graduate, I find it bizarre that Jeff Deckman tried to convince West Warwick voters in District 27, that Ericka Atwell should be elected to the House of Representatives. After reading all the negative articles, letters to the editor and watching the news coverage in the 2008 election, it is a sad state of affairs that Jeff Deckman was trying to get Ericka Atwell elected, trying to convince voters to accept this candidate. Politics is a serious game and to see Jeff Deckman try to get Ericka Atwell elected says alot about his judgement. Thank you to all voters in West Warwick for not electing Ericka Atwell in 2008.
After watching the news coverage, I don't know how anyone could possibly consider Ericka Atwell as a good choice for state representative.

You obviously did not watch how hard that young woman worked! I live in her district and I and my husband changed parties to vote for her!

It is ashame that you would point the finger at someone else's judgement when you clearly have not an ounce of good judgement in yourself. I know many, many people that supported her. Her name was EVERYWHERE!
That video was slanderous political attack pushed through by Pat Serpa's democrat cronies. ((Pat Serpa then introduced two of the young men, suspect to producing the video to the House of Representative's floor; introducing them as "the next Speaker of the House" and asking the General Assembly to raise their cap for Rhode Island Student Community Gov. from 1 to 2 million dollars.))

Atwell achieved 63% of the vote in her primary for a reason and won a respectable 40% in the general election against 3 other candidates!

Anyone who judges those articles written by a school newspaper and a video clearly made up to destroy this young woman's very, very bright future is my judgement sad, uninformed and definitely did not meet Ms. Atwell.

Ericka Atwell lives in my district and ran for that seat that this young woman sarah is speaking of.

Sarah, let me ask you a question-- did you have fun in college? did you have the guts to run for political office at 22? Are you even registered to vote or are you just plain ENVIOUS of this beautiful, intelligent, young, powerful woman who wanted to dedicate her time to serving the hard working people in our district?!!!

Sarah, you shouldn't throw stones.. bottom line. The fact that you are writting false, negative things about a man like Jeff Deckman and a candidate like Ericka Atwell tells me one thing....you have the bad judgement. I voted for Ericka Atwell twice!!!!!

Posted by: By the way at March 8, 2010 2:32 PM

This is absurd, how did some crazy liberal get onto this blog!?!?

Ericka Atwell is a fine example of a GREAT candidate. She lost the general election by 180 something votes!!!! She definitely did not need your vote, Sarah. Were you jealous of how pretty she was? Was it her signs plastered all over the district that made you upset??? Were you one of the crazies out there that cut her face off of her signs???? Just wondering. Keep your judgement to yourself! GLAD YOU MOVED.

Posted by: Ocean lover at March 8, 2010 2:36 PM

I'm glad she moved too. She is the one who probably wrote those awful letters to the editor and put together that video!

Imagine that, a recent graduate? Hm.. I wonder from where? RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE???? That's what I thought... I wonder if Ms. Sarah wrote all of those nasty letters in the RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE newspaper.....

This sarah girl must be very very jealous. That is a sad state of affairs, one young woman throwing mud at another!!!! I would vote for Ericka Atwell in a heart beat, as a matter of fact whenever I see her jogging the neighborhood ...I BEG HER TO! She'll make it to congress one day if she can stand the negative slurs, stabs and lies... which I KNOW SHE CAN!

GO ATWELL, YOU GOT MY VOTE!!!!!!

Can we just talk about how PAT SERPA AND Bill Murphy got it on ...and now he steps down from the damage he has stirred up for the past 7 years and makes her the new chair of small business committee? INTERESTING. Now, we all knew she had a divorce on the books got remarried but now Pat Serpa is sleeping around for committee appointments?

Pat Serpa, we know you and you are NOT going to be re-elected, (Bill said you weren't that good)

Posted by: let's talk about at March 8, 2010 3:22 PM

I can only echo the comments made by everyone EXCEPT Sarah.

Sarah, you've obviously never had the privilege of meeting Ms. Atwell. She is a dynamic young woman with a great head on her shoulders. Not only is she beautiful and intelligent, she is full of passion and vision. Anyone with anything negative to say about her is just jealous of this young woman.

The video that aired on the news during the 2008 election was laughable and I'm so proud of how Ms. Atwell carried herself during that media attack. It was a disgusting display of how low some people will go...and I have a tremendous amount of respect for Atwell's integrity.

Sarah, so glad you moved -- the people of West Warwick would be lucky to have Atwell as their representative -- and how dare you attack her character...you should be ashamed of your unsupported attack on a delightful young woman.

Pat Serpa is behind this. Pat Serpa is not going to be re-elected. Pat Serpa specifically designated someone to write negative things about Ms. Atwell because Pat Serpa is "a nervous wreck to lose her seat" said one state rep, and "toast" said another. Pat Serpa, your days are numbered.. are you going to finally produce legislation, Pat Serpa? Pat Serpa, don't you think it's a little too late?

Posted by: professor at March 8, 2010 3:28 PM

Pat Serpa is an honorable person and politician who wouldn't lower herself to use such character assasination campaigning against someone else. Professor, you don't mention the "state reps" who made those comments. Check the number of pro-small business legislation that Representative Serpa has written and sponsored this year before you make claims. She got the committee chair because she has worked closely with the small business community and is passionate about improving the business climate. End of story.

"let's talk about" your comments are reckless, insulting, and border on slander. Suggesting that Representative Serpa needs to sleep with someone to achieve a committee chairmanship is nonsense.

As far as Erika Atwell goes, who cares what she did in college? The only thing that matters is if she will be a qualified candidate. If there is anyone online here that didn't do foolish things in college please raise your hand. Shame on the people who made and aired that video. Pat Serpa had nothing to do with it.

Jeff Deckman is a fine individual who is working through RISC to replace those people in office that aren't doing a good job for RI. Fortunately, Pat Serpa isn't one of those people.

But wanna admit that this is very useful , Thanks for taking your time to write this. "Truth is the summit of being justice is the application of it to affairs." by Ralph Waldo Emerson. Thanx.
