No Comparison of Need

Justin Katz

I couldn't but scale back my pitch during my call to Matt Allen, knowing that he'd subsequently be speaking with a representative of the Red Cross concerning the dire need for money to help the people of Haiti. Simply put, there's no comparison to be found in everyday life to this sort of catastrophe:

Haitians piled bodies along the devastated streets of their capital Wednesday after a powerful earthquake flattened the president's palace, the cathedral, hospitals, schools, the main prison and whole neighborhoods. Officials feared hundreds of thousands may have perished but there was no firm count.

Prayers and assistance the world over should turn toward that small island.

Comments

The cruelty of it all is so powerful. The devastation and loss of life are so profound because the islands poor infrastructure reflects the impoverished state of the people.
Haiti is an example of the randomness and unfairness of life x 10.

On the 700 Club today,Conservatve Republican televangelist Pat Robertson said that the devastating earthquake in Haiti was the result of a pact the country made with the Devil. "Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it," Robertson said. "They were under the heel of the French, you know, Napoleon the 3rd and whatever, and they got together and swore a pact to the Devil. They said, 'We will serve you if you'll get us free from the French.' True story. And so the Devil said, 'Okay, it's a deal

Anon is a typical lib, shamelessly politicizing anything. Thanks for showing the world how much you care.

Hmmmm, now who has (for decades) and will continue to render on the ground help and assistance to the people of this (and many others) poor and impoverished nation, conservative Republican Christians or liberal Democrat atheists??
Any thoughts Anon??
The conditions the people of Haiti lived in BEFORE this calamity renders RI's liberal Democrat poverty pimp cabal even more laughable. They wouldn't know poverty if it walked up and bit 'em in the arse.
Any thougths Anon?? lol

After he and Falwell opined that 9/11 was divine retribution for America's "sins," I cease to take anything that belches forth from Robertson's larnyx seriously.
I drink a toast to those that set Haiti free in the way our founding fathers did America.

Anon, that you believe your response is clever shows how obtuse you are.

The White House is firing back at Rush Limbaugh after the conservative talk radio host urged people not to donate to relief efforts in Haiti.

Spokesman Robert Gibbs says there are always people who say "really stupid things" during a crisis. He says it's sad that Limbaugh would use the power of his pulpit to convince people not to assist those in need.

Limbaugh said on his radio show Wednesday that he wouldn't trust that money donated to Haiti through the White House Web site would actually go to the relief efforts. He said Americans don't need to contribute to earthquake relief because they already donate to Haiti through their income taxes.

Russ, thanks for posting those links.

I'd suggest El Rushbo try an organization called Partners in Health. According to a 2005 audit, 94 percent of its donations go straight to relief (sure beats the Red Cross).
Oh, I'm sorry, Mr. Limbaugh. I didn't ralize the vast majority of Haitians (as well as Americans involved in relief work there) were liberals. My bad.
