Socialists to Protest Beck

Marc Comtois

I don't watch or listen to Glenn Beck, but I do know he stirs up those on the left (and some Republicans). He's going to be in Providence late this afternoon and the local branch of the International Socialist Organization is organizing a protest. Talk about playing to type and feeding the beast. (At least one local, prominent NEA operative plans on hanging with his socialist brothers). Glenn's new book is called Arguing with Idiots and I suspect he assumed he'd be able to demonstrate his techniques during his book tour. (Though I do wonder if the ISO protested Beck when he toured promoting his earlier book, America's March to Socialism)?

Comments

These wannabe communist "revolutionaries"and Crowley, the perpetual instigator, might find out that private property is subject to restrictions not covered in the Bill of Rights.A night in the lockup might be good for them, but I doubt it-they'll compare themselves to the revolutionaries who were mowed down in St.Petersburg in 1905.
I am not a fan of Beck(he got lucky with Van Jones),but these same nitwits showed up at the Tom Tancredo event. They were pitiful-they marched and barked for an audience of police on detail and the much larger group who came to hear Tancredo speak ignored them,as was appropriate.

Have these socialists so lost touch with reality that they think showing up to Glenn Beck's book signing and shouting at him at the Providence Place Mall will result in good publicity for them?

I fully support this protest for the utter debacle that it will be for their movement, and I couldn't give a fark less about Glenn Beck.

The rhetoric around this is very effective viral advertising. I am sure that it will help sell many books. The topic and delivery seems geared toward consumers with short attention spans - maybe 3-10 minutes.

How many will read it cover to cover?

Marc, you should listen and watch Glenn Beck once in awhile. He's very theatrical, very funny and very much on the mark in his commentary. Absolutely awesome how guys like Beck drive the looney left even loonier.

Posted by: Tim at October 3, 2009 3:17 PM

I agree with Tim. Glenn Beck is funny, tongue in cheek and gets to the point. Drives the left crazy. That's not so bad.

Beck's success -- and to an even greater extent Rush's -- come from the fact that they are able to entertain their audiences.

Both of these guys are very talented and give their audiences something to think about.

On his Fox News show, Beck consistently beats the ratings of all his competitors combined!

H/T Hot Air.

My guess is that Beck does not have Rush's staying power . . . but who does?

Posted by: brassband at October 3, 2009 4:30 PM

Regarding my not watching or listening to Beck...given his burgeoning (or burgeoned?) popularity, I should take him in some time. My schedule this time of year doesn't synch up well with doing that. However, I have caught snippets of both his radio show and his show on Headline News before he moved to Fox.

Posted by: Marc at October 3, 2009 4:34 PM

I've seen him a few times-he reminds me a little too much of Jimmy Swaggart.
He did a good job taking the back of the two Border Patrolmen who were railroaded by the BUSH Justice(?)Dept.Eric Holder couldn't have outdone those turds at Justice HQ.

Posted by: joe bernstein at October 3, 2009 6:24 PM

I wonder if a NEA hack is going to show up in the Miami Vice outfit?

Posted by: Roland at October 3, 2009 6:51 PM

Marc(I KNOW NOTHING!) (ABOUT THIS BECK GUY) deserves a JOE WILSON - YOU LIE! not a joe wilson - there are no weapons of mass destruction. All the righties want to run from this Beck guy but you own him. Sorry. Poor Joe Bernstein. He knows so much that he can't see what he does not know.

Posted by: David at October 3, 2009 7:43 PM

David,
Don't you know that Marc is really Schultz from Hogan's Heros in disguise. He "knows nothing"!

Posted by: OldTimeLefty at October 3, 2009 8:16 PM

David-unlike a lot of smart folks such as yourself,I am aware of what I don't know about, and I usually stay off those subjects. You ought to try it for yourself. You know exactly NOTHING about me,other than what i choose to share on this and other blogs.

Posted by: joe bernstein at October 3, 2009 9:05 PM

David-one more thing you should get into your learning curve is that calling people liars from behind an anonymous identity marks you as someone not to be taken seriously.I've never met Marc Comtois, and unless you have, where the hell do you get off calling him a liar?

Posted by: joe bernstein at October 3, 2009 9:48 PM

OTL-Sgt.Schultz?That was weak, buddy.
This generation of leftists seems to be a little lacking in comittment-were they gonna melt in the rain?
If you read the huffing and puffing on RIF,you'd have expected a "Days of Rage" replay.Or at least Seattle.

Posted by: joe bernstein at October 3, 2009 9:51 PM

Joe- using the Joe wilson on Marc is a joke. A big joke. Just like Joe Wilson. Boy are you losing something on your fastball

Posted by: David at October 3, 2009 10:07 PM

I couldn't pitch worth s**t-couldn't field either.Good line drive hitter.Horrible baserunner.

Posted by: joe bernstein at October 3, 2009 11:23 PM

David, We own Beck! Wow, when do my checks start coming in?????

Posted by: bobc at October 4, 2009 9:55 AM

joe,
You'd have to have been a poor base runner. Too many left turns for you.

OTL- a marked improvement

Posted by: joe bernstein at October 4, 2009 12:09 PM

As the saying goes....hook, line, and sinker....

soooooo easy

Posted by: Pat Crowley at October 4, 2009 4:44 PM

I don't know if Crowley realizes this, but their scruffy little protest brought out one less person than is required to start a Brownie troop.

Posted by: joe bernstein at October 4, 2009 7:39 PM

Joe Bernstein is nothing but a 1 issue conservative. He's a pro-union guy who thinks he's a Republican because he happens to have been a former border patrol agent.

And Bernstein's types of conservatives are the worst, because anti-immigration hysteria is our weakest issue.

Guys like Bernstein who support the baby Providence Firefighters who want more and more of our hard earned tax dollars every year do nothing to help the conservative cause.

Posted by: Robespeirre at October 4, 2009 10:59 PM

Robespierre-I'm not a Republican or a Democrat.
I am conservative on more than one issue-abortion,firearms rights, and national security, which,if you took the time to actually read what I write,is one of the main issues affected by lax immigration enforcement.I am hardly prone to hysteria on that subject since I did it for a job for 21 years, unlike instant experts such as yourself.
I vote for whoever seems like the best candidate. Are you a programmed Republican voter?
Some Democrats in RI are much more conservative than Republicans if you took the time to notice.
I also am dead set against the trend to political correctness.
Forgive me if I don't believe in throwing myself at the feet of Wall Street money changers to prove my conservative values.
I also believe that it is part of a citizen's duty to serve their country-I did,in the Vietnam War,have you?
I've had the same values since I was a teenager.I belonged to YAF in college before enlisting in the service. If you don't know what that is,look it up.
If supporting firefighters against a piece of S**t like Cicilline makes me a liberal, you're out of your mind.
Are you a Providence taxpayer?I am.I think the firemen do a great job. There are lots of hack jobs that could be cut to save money. But no,they want to save on those who provide essential services.
For the record,I have no relatives who work for the state or city.
You skim things and think you read them.I spent most of my INS career in the Investigations Division and got a first hand look at the destructive effect of uncontrolled immigration.
If that is the weakest issue conservatives have,we're in trouble.
YOUR hard earned tax dollars?I didn't inherit,champ.

Posted by: joe bernstein at October 5, 2009 5:58 AM

Bernstein,

So to be clear: you're a social conservative, but a shill for the public sector union employees. That's understandable, because you're a former public sector guy.

That's the thing with YOU. It's all about YOU. You're anti-immigration because you worked for ICE. You're pro public sector unions becase...you worked for a public sector union. And so on and so forth.

One would hope people could be a little but magnaninous and see the big picture regardless of their bias (like, for instance, that firefighters in Rhode Island as the highest paid in the nation), but that's certainly not the case with YOU.

I point this out just to show the herd mentality that affects so many Rhode Islanders, and humanity in general.

By the way, I do appreciate your service in Vietnam.

Posted by: Robespierre at October 5, 2009 10:31 AM

And by the way, I own two houses in Providence, and pay A LOT in taxes to support these greedy firefighters.

And to your point about being a "programmed" GOP voter, I am not. I will be voting for Cicilline because he's the only mayor in the state with the guts to stand up to the firefighters!

Posted by: Robespierre at October 5, 2009 10:35 AM

I only own one house.I always pay my taxes on time in full.
I am not "programmed" to support anything public sector unions do.I do not believe public sector employees have any right to strike.
I supported Reagan's firing of the air traffic controllers because it is unthinkable for anyone working for the government in a pblic safety or national security capacity to strike.Clear enough for you?
Is it all about me?Well,to an extent you are correct.I use my life experience to form my opinions. It beats reading about it.I never worked for ICE bythe way.I retired 13 years ago.I formed my opinions about immigration as a result of seeing first hand the extent of the problem
I have had cancer three times-maybe I have a perspective on that type of disease you may not(I sure hope you haven't)because I know all too well what happens to you when you get it.Does that make me self-centered?I don't know.It makes me experienced with it,that I know.
I have little to no economic knowledge or experience so I generally stay quiet on that subject because I have nothing of value to contribute.
My belief in the validity of public sector unions is their ability to address such issues as workplace safety, unfair labor practices, and capricious or malicious actions by management.
if teachers strike, they should be fired or fined heavily. The public doesn't get to decide who works for them,so those of us who choose to work in the public sector must not abuse the trust we are(were)given.
David Cicilline is a man who made a lving representing drug dealers and in many cases getting them off to further damage the community.
It was all legal and ethical, but it had real consequences. He can't turn around and pretend to protect the public good with a straight face if you ask me.He also lies. He's not the first politician to lie,but he does it routinely.

Posted by: joe bernstein at October 5, 2009 12:43 PM

Watch out Joe, some people can't stand if you have a point of view other than theirs.

While I agree with you on some items, and not on others, you are passionate in what you believe in. You also great have research, and very interesting experiences.

Posted by: kathy at October 5, 2009 3:21 PM

I welcome any challenge to my positions-I can usually defend them. This person seemed a little angry-I don't know why,but whatever-I won't get into an ad hominem exchange when it seems unproductive.
BTW I hardly expect people to necessarily agree with me down the line-independent thought is what made America great. The leftists don't like that.
I think Robespierre is an odd name for a conservative to pick as a screen identity, considering who the real Robespierre was.
