Unions Sowing Fear in the Streets

Justin Katz

As a follow-up on the subject of organized labor stoking civil violence, it turns out that one of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) members who crossed into physical violence in St. Louis wasn't just a overexcited layman:

Elston K. McCowan is a former organizer - now the Public Service Director of SEIU Local 2000 - and board member of the Walbridge Community Education Center, and is a Baptist minister, has been a community organizer for more than 23 years, and now, he is running for Mayor of the City of St. Louis under the Green Party.

As Clarice Feldman observes, McCowan "is the union"; he's one of the guys who "issues the cards."

Join that with an SEIU memo in Connecticut that explicitly instructs supporters to "drown out" those who oppose the healthcare power grab. The line between "being heard" and "making not heard" is not so subtle. The former is an expression of democratic process. The latter indicates an intention to bully the opposition into simply staying home in the interest of their own safety.

In Michigan, a man who confronted Rep. John Dingell (D., Michigan) about the availability of resources, under Obamacare, for his son's cerebral palsy subsequently received a visit in the middle of the night. Welcome to hope and change.

As of late June, "union members serving under collective bargaining agreements" would be exempted from the proposed tax on worker health benefits that at one point was part of health care reform.

Does anyone know if this is the case under the latest version of the bill?

The right is re-enacting HG Wells War of the Worlds all over again, this time with swastikas.

Monique,

I don't know if it's still part of the bill.

This SCAM is intended to increase union membership by encouraging people to join unions to avoid the tax - in effect a tax subsidy for union membership.

This is similar to the little-known scam with "living wage" laws. Typically those under collective bargaining agreements are exempt from living wage laws - unions then approach nonunion employers and offer the opportunity to pay people LESS than the "living wage" in return for recognizing the union.

You see, despite what the Pat Crowley's of the world say, labor unions are about collecting dues income for union bosses and union staffs and roping in more members whose dues can be recycled into pliant Democrat officeholders.

Do we know the identity of the culprit?

We know that last week at a town hall meeting an SEIU official spouted racial epithets while assaulting a citizen handing out "Don't Tread on Me" materials.

The incident in Georgia could well have been committed by Obama supports (e.g., SEIU) doing this to try to discredit "Obama haters."

To have done so is a classic from the fascist's playbook (see, e.g., the Reichstag fire).

I'd love to take that video of some of the EP School Committee meetings, turn off the sound and fuzz out the written signs and shirts. Show that to Pelosi and her band of brothers who find this protest thing to be unpatriotic and astroturfing. What would she think if she saw that video without really knowing which side those people were on?

Remember kids, protesting and obstructing George W. Bush was patriotic. Protesting Obama policies is "un-American."

It's all very confusing.

Aren't these town hall protesters just speaking truth to power ...?
