Pole Dancing Minors: Wrong Kind of Economic Development, Wrong Kind of Publicity

John DePetro observed Monday that certain members of the General Assembly are not inclined to close this legal loophole because its continued existence might increase Rhode Island's convention business. (Wouldn't it be far preferable on a number of levels to draw business here with an economically friendly climate instead of via our children?)

Those legislators should be pleased, then, that at 5:15 this afternoon, "16-year-old strippers found legal in R.I." was the third most popular popular story on the United Press International "Top News" webpage.

Here's a question. Who is more exploitive of their girls, Rhode Island or this region of India? Note that while both activities occur after sunset, no spotlights are employed during the latter.

Who's kidding who here? The power players in the Democratic party won't close these loopholes because:

A - they frequent these gay/straight brothels/strip clubs and want the legal protection
B - have ownership in them
C - doing the bidding of those who do own them

Matt Allen has it right. There is a tolerance of moral decadence in this state that doesn't exist elsewhere. Other places see that loophole and fix it immediately. Here in RI those who see the loophole must spend years explaining/debating/convincing others why it's wrong and needs to be fixed.
AND IT STILL ISN'T FIXED!!!
We are truly a national embarrassment and it's well deserved.

So where can Boston pro athletes go to get their swerve on if we do away with strip clubs?
The boom days at the Foxy ended around the time Mo Vaughn left town.

I dunno, Rhody. The parking lot of Club Desire was pretty full when I drove by Friday evening.

By the way, does anyone else find it a little suspicious that the new detour to get to Rt 95 South from Providence takes you right by Club Desire? On another comment thread, Tim talked about politicians who might have ownership stakes in these various venues. Perhaps including Club Desire? And what better way to increase business than to route a detour by it?

I'm not saying. I'm just saying.
