I've Heard Better
Here is the text of President Obama's speech. His victory speech was much better, not the least because it was much more gracious toward and tolerant of the other side. Among the first statements issued in the president's new, "unified" tone?
On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics.We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things.
He read that as one paragraph, by the way, making it a complaint against his predecessor, not a statement of national growth. "Unity," in this usage, means the other side just gives in.
One other thought that occurred to me while listening to the speech was that we have been proven correct who have been noting that the nation's handling of race had already changed, and that the liberal methods of addressing it were merely prolonging discord. The conditions were amenable to Obama, just awaiting the right individual.
That is not to deny that it is quite an achievement for him to have been that individual, but a testament to the goodness of our country.
since when is freedom "childish"? When did it become selfish to have a point of view? We should just finally recognize that there is no way you can have an honest debate with liberals any more than you can have honest negotiations with terrorists. Neither one is interested in any kind of "dialogue". They BOTH mean to destroy America, but one does it with fake smiles on his face while the other does it with bombs strapped to his back.
It is high time that we conservatives, libertarians and patriots of all stripes recognize that they are bent on our destruction. Well as they used to say on Hill Street blues "lets do it to them before they do it to us"

Posted by: Thomas Schmeling at January 20, 2009 9:59 PMI am just amazed that a Black candidate was elected President.When I was growing up in the late 40's and 50's(born right after the war)it would have been like science fiction.That in itself speaks volumes about the kind of country we have.I didn't vote for him because I thought his positions were wrong on some key issues that I follow,but if only "people of color"had voted for him,he'd still be a Senator from Illinois.A hell of a lot of White people voted for him,so Lowery's comments were really out of line.
As far as that "white do right"remark,I KNOW I am doing right by my Black grandaughter,so Mr.Lowery can kiss my ass.
