What We'll Know When the Center Isn't So Critical

Justin Katz

Surely we've all had experiences with those deceitful practices that get us every time. Perhaps you've had the lover whose word you, for some reason, take every time he or she promises not to cheat again. Perhaps you've had the boss whose nakedly arbitrary and false deadlines always manage to ratchet up the stress. Well, the great political feint to the center during general elections is like that.

Even if Melanie Phillips's fears of a post-election Barack Obama prove to be partially true, it ought to be enough to demotivate some among his throngs:

Obama assumes that Islamic terrorism is driven by despair, poverty, inflammatory US policy and the American presence on Muslim soil in the Persian Gulf. Thus he adopts the agenda of the Islamists themselves. This is not surprising since many of his connections suggest that that the man who may be elected President of a country upon which the Islamists have declared war is himself firmly in the Islamists' camp. Daniel Pipes lists Obama's extensive connections to Islamists in general and the Nation of Islam in particular, and concludes with this astounding observation:
Obama's multiple links to anti-Americans and subversives mean he would fail the standard security clearance process for Federal employees. Islamic aggression represents America's strategic enemy; Obama's many insalubrious connections raise grave doubts about his fitness to serve as America's commander-in-chief.

Phillips isn't saying that Obama is himself Muslim, or that he supports Islamic nations' domination of the West, but that he's of that liberal "camp" that comes to common conclusions with the Islamists. We'll have to wait with bated breath, if Obama wins the race, to see whether actually running the most powerful nation on Earth forces him to discard the cherished platitudes of the academy or, with his presumption of divine destiny, he believes that he will be The One to soften America's hand just enough to win over the good will of the peace-loving Muslim world.

If the latter, many voters' refrain is likely to be "How could we have known?"

Obama's followers have the false hope that the Islamic terrorists can be somehow placated.People willing to commit kamikaze attacks for a long term aim can't be reasoned with,as is amply evidenced by the number of fellow Muslims they have immolated in bomb attacks.
Many of these attacks are on people considered heretics by one sect or the other, and there is always more enmity towards them than even unbelievers.
Obama will not appreciate what he's dealing with until it's too late, because it seems his anger is directed at Americans he considers wealthy(as if he isn't)and he will be busy with his dream of wealth redistribution based on discredited theories.
Thanks to the media whores and the economic meltdown,it seems Obama is on the verge of victory-the first time anyone this far left would be elected President.I don't have that much wealth at all,so I will enjoy seeing the rich liberals get raped financially. The Hollywood dirtbag elite in particular.Or,just maybe there will be a political litmus test to determine tax liability.Think I'm crazy?Wait and see.Or better, vote for McCain and encourage others to do so.The virulence of Obama supporters on blogs and in the media makes me think they are a little worried.Otherwise, why bother?
I questioned Al Franken's suitability to be a Senator on RIF and was on the receiving end of an hysterical response
so I knew I had hit a nerve-it is rare for leftists to respond point by poin to any criticism-there a few here and there who do,but most just try to run down those daring to question socialist wisdom.

When all else fails, there's always socialist hysteria.
BTW, a Franken defeat was in the bag until Coleman let his anti-SNL hubris get the best of him and run an ad with obviously doctored footage of Franken in an attempt to buttress his claim that Franken's too angry. Minnesotans don't buy that. The only reason you have to worry about a Sen. Franken is that Norm couldn't leave well enough alone.

I think, given Obama's comments, and his past and current associations with radicals, hysteria regarding Socialism, if you want to call it that, is completely justified by his scant record.

Of course, he's not a Muslim, even if he may have been listed on some elementary school documents as being one in his childhood. That, I think, in a place like Indonesia, is not uncommon, even for non-practicing Muslims. Frankly, that doesn't worry me, except for his candor on the subject. Everything about him seems to be in the form of progressive revelation ... it's kind of a drip, drip. I'd just prefer he be forthright.

However, I do think the greater Muslim world sees The One as being much more open to their world view -- and their interests -- than John McCain. Given what some of their interests are, that should scare any American.
