Rasmussen: Presidential Race Tightens

We haven't done a lot of Presidential poll tracking around here, mostly because of the "meh" factor we feel for the two candidates, I suppose. But in case you're wondering, it looks like Obama and McCain are neck and neck.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows Barack Obama attracting 43% of the vote while John McCain earns 42%. When "leaners" are included, it’s Obama 46% and McCain 46%.... McCain is viewed favorably by 57% of voters, Obama by 55%.

Just thought I'd bring it to your attention since I couldn't find this info on any of the other local blogs that devote a lot of time to Obama and the like. 'Course, they seem to never miss the chance to post the Obama-in-a-landslide type poll numbers......

Going to be an interesting race since many voters have real questions and concerns about both these candidates. Really do think who each names as their VP is going to carry much more weight than in past elections.
The strength of the ticket is going to matter a great deal this year.
Tom Ridge would be a huge mistake for McCain and Jack Reed would be a huge mistake for Obama. Neither stengthens their candidate enough to make a positive difference.

McCain needs to pick someone at least fairly conservative with youth and charisma (to offset his own deficiencies), and someone like Tom Ridge is none of the above. Mark my words, it will be Romney, Jindal, or Huckabee.

Jack Reed would be an unwise choice for VP, if only for his short stature and uncanny resemblance to Frank Perdue. Just think of the caricature and cartoon possibilities! Obama is all about symbolism over substance, and for that reason alone, Obama will choose someone a bit more conventional -- someone like Evan Bayh, Joe Biden, or maybe even Chuck Hagel. I don't think it will be a woman (sorry Hilldabeast!)

That being said, if Obama were to win, I would think Reed would be a very likely choice as Secretary of Defense. Fortunately, Democratic nominees have this uncanny ability to snatch defeat out of the hands of victory, so Sen. Reed probably will not be faced with these choices.
