A Handy Economics Lesson

Justin Katz

Rep. Handy, who introduced the atrocity of a bill currently being discussed, just described one of the "injustices" that he's seeking to alleviate: He spent the past few years paying taxes on diapers for his child, but a rich person who could afford a diaper service would be free of that burden.

I'd dispute the notion that the very same taxes are not collected from somewhere, but the bigger point is this: Those rich parents have created jobs. They've financed income taxes. They've advanced business. That's exactly what we want, and that's precisely what this bill will undermine.

Comments

As for diaper services I did a search online in the white pages and could not find any. Maybe they are all out of business and the rep is out of date 20 years. Or this is all just a red herring?

Justin,

Saw the diaper comment on Cap TV. The people sitting behind Handy chuckled. Actually there were more than a few chuckles with some of the laughable crap Handy and Tiny Tom were spewing.
It's clear from Costantino's comments that he's not buying much of this and neither is Shanley D-SK who called this the Redistribution of Wealth Act. lol
Some small element of this may fly at some point but imo this bit 'o socialism is DOA. When heavyweights like John Hazen White Jr show up in the 1st row the 'leadership' takes note.
Btw can't tell you how jacked it is that somebody is finally taking the worst House speaker this state has ever seen to task over his 6 years of nothingness. The most powerful man in Rhode Island state government is a big fat zero. So nice it's finally being noticed. Dan Yorke has been on fire in recent days over the horrific 'leadership' of the legislature. 'Bout time! We pile on the governor all the time but the sad reality is he's had very little in the way of quality legislative leaders to work with over the past 6 years. Bill Murphy makes John Harwood seem statesmanlike. Murphy is an ineffective disaster and it's so sweet to finally hear someone in the media verbalize that truth.

art handy IS A LIAR-i checked and there is NO sales tax on diapers in Rhode island-typical marxist lying pig-like crowley making it look like there were no anti-tax bill people at the hearing-and portraying Chris Young as the main opposition leader on the issue-i'm not dumping on Young but even he would admit he's pretty edgy i'm sure-he definitely is sincere in his beliefs-the fact is many knowledgeable people who contribute in a positive way to the state's economy led the protest

The diaper gap.

And it doesn't exist? So all Rhode Islanders are on equal diaper footing? Good. Cancel the red alert and withdraw the bill.
