Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Roberts on the Stem Cell Breakthrough

Carroll Andrew Morse

Rhode Island Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Roberts has issued a statement on the stem cell breakthrough that was reported last week in two major scientific journals…

As a strong advocate for all forms of stem cell research, I am excited to learn that scientists are able to manipulate skin cells into embryonic cells that could lead to the development of treatments, and hopefully cures, for the most debilitating and life threatening diseases of our time. This is a wonderful discovery that opens the door to a new avenue of stem cell research. I encourage our Congressional delegation to push for greater federal research dollars for every type of stem cell research.

We must continue to pursue each and every scientific opportunity in this sector to save lives, prevent suffering and create research opportunities in our highly skilled biotech economy here in Rhode Island.

The Lieutenant Governor’s statement also made mention of her current efforts regarding adult stem cells…
Lt. Gov. Roberts is currently working with leaders in the General Assembly to submit legislation that will ensure expanded banking of cord blood, a different type of adult stem cell. Roberts hopes to implement a system in hospitals across the state for public cord blood banking which increases research opportunities and can save lives in Rhode Island.
Lt. Gov. Roberts assembled a report on stem cell research possibilities earlier this year that can be read at her official website.

The sky is literally falling in on RI and this is what Roberts sets as her priority?

Is it any wonder that we are in such terrible shape?

I would much preferred to have read Lt. Gov. Roberts is currently working with leaders in the General Assembly to submit legislation that will ensure honest, open and effective government, a self-actuating Constitution, an "open" State Properties Commission etc.

Will the last sane person leaving the state, please turn off the lights!

Aldo,

To be fair, I e-mailed Lt. Gov. Roberts' press secretary this morning asking for a reaction. (I've also contacted Conressman Langevin's office).

Because the reply (which was promptly sent out) came in the form of a press release, I didn't mention my initial request, because I didn't want to create the impression that this was somehow an Anchor Rising "exclusive" involving firsthand reporting/interviews.

I guess we're still in a bit of uncharted water, when new media interacts with a traditional press office.

(sigh)

The Lieutenant Governor seems to be basically a good person and not tainted with RI Democrat good ole boy slime. And I understand that that office is anything you make of it.

Having said that, it's hard to disagree with Aldo. She is not the Vice President of the country, she is the Lieutenant Governor of a state which is facing some very serious problems. It would be preferable if she used the resources of her office to facilitate solutions to or even aggregate data on problems intrinsic to Rhode Island.

i think they call it as " reaaranging the deck chairs on the titanic"

my beef with her - she keeps bragging that she fought blue cross while in the ga... well the bottom line is that there is virtually no competition for bx in ri. except for united health. just like beacon mutual, they have bought there way to a monopoly.

and where was looney liz during all this time????

You know guys, I wouldn't be too excited about what Elizabeth Roberts has to say about stem cells, or what steps she's taking to support or promote research in this area. She's setting her sights on the governorship. And by the way, she has no problem with abortion, and using embryonic stem cells harvested from embryonic human beings. I am personally very concerned about a Roberts run for governor. She's one of the most liberal officers in state government right now. Anchor Rising - don't lose your vigilance!

Anybody want to see a good comedy show just check out Looney Left Liz's mumbling, bumbling, stumbling doubletalk appearance on Sunday's 10 News On The Record. Taricani and Rappleye laughed right in her face with obvious contempt.
It's on the WJAR web site as a streaming video.
She's AAA at best. Caprio will eat her alive. The only one with any gravitas in that field and the only one who can beat our candidate (and it ain't gonna be Scott).

Mike: You are 100%, no, make that 1000% correct.

Scott represents a return of the RINOs - and I think he's worse that Linc.
